Santa Ana  (Santa Ana)
Santa Ana is a canton in the San José province of Costa Rica.

The first mention of the name appears in the Protocols of Cartago on December 1st 1658. The name comes from the owner of the lands (which now conform the canton) at the time, Jerónimo de Retes y López de Ortega. Ortega was seeded the land by the Spanish crown as a recognition for his work as sheriff of Cartago. Popular belief is that he named his lands in honour of Saint Anne.
